Guernsey Foster Care

Without a family to give
him hope, Max won’t
get a fair chance.

Adoption is a secure and permanent arrangement for children who are unable to return to their birth family. Adopters have parental responsibility for the child(ren) who they adopt. The birth parent no longer has parental responsibility. In other forms of permanence, such as long term fostering, the birth parent retains parental responsibility.

Once a child is adopted there is no longer a requirement for the child or adopters to have on-going social work input although in some circumstances the adopter may request on-going support and guidance. For young children adoption is the preferred route since it provides stability and security for the child into adulthood.
