About the team

About the team

The Family Placement Service consists of senior practitioners, social workers, and a team manager. The entire team are involved in the recruitment, assessment, training, support and supervision of foster carers. We have a close working relationship with the Guernsey Foster Care & Adoption Association. The expansion of the team in recent years has allowed the team to develop the service it offers to carers. We offer regular visits to carers and a duty system means that someone is available to carers even if their allocated worker is not.

The team has a role in assisting carers to implement the plan for the child who is in their care. They will also work with the carer to identify what training would assist their development and what types of placement would match with the foster family. New carers will come into contact with the members of the team through training events, the support group and social events.

“What we desperately need is a wide range of different people who can foster for either a short or long period of time. The child could be a baby, a toddler, a teenager, a young mum and baby or a disabled child.”
