Fostering a child in Guernsey

Fostering a child in Guernsey

Seeing a child settled, secure and enjoying life is one of the greatest rewards of fostering, especially when the child may have experienced neglect or abuse.

As a foster carer you will have to work slowly and patiently with any child or young person placed with you to help them come to terms with their experiences and feelings about being separated from their families. You will need empathy, staying power and an ability to believe that your fostered child is capable of overcoming adversity to reach their full potential. We understand the challenges our foster carers face along the way and the importance of supporting you.

We hope this website will help you decide if fostering is right for you. Please call us for an informal discussion on 01481 713230.

“What we desperately need is a wide range of different people who can foster for either a short or long period of time. The child could be a baby, a toddler, a teenager, a young mum and baby or a disabled child.”
